Mahakal Bhairav

Mahakal Bhairav

“Aum mahakalang yajedavyang dakshine dhumavarnakam I
Bivratang danda khatangou dranshtrabhimukham shishum I”

First of Dasabhairavas, the embodiment of “Kala” or time, Mahakala Bhairava is one of the fierce forms of Shiva. Very few temples across the globe worship Mahakala Bhairav in the idol form, which makes Tarashanki Peeth a very exclusive experience for devotees.

The most revered and protector deity, Shri Shri Mahakal Bhairav was consecrated in our temple by Yogiraj Paresh Chandra Roy Moulik and Yogmata Anjali Roy Moulik in 1984 amidst the holy occasion of Makar Shankranti. The idol of Mahakal Bhairav finds resemblance to the famous Kalabhirav idol of Kathmandu, Nepal.

Baba Mahakal Bhairav’s idol in our temple is six handed and holds Kharaga, Trishul or trident, Kapila, Chakra, Lord Brahma’s severed fifth head and blesses devotees in the Barabhaya Mudra. With a five headed human skull crown on his head, Shri Shri Mahakal Bhairav wears snake adornments on his hands and around his waist. He sits amidst eternally fuming fire and has taken up a greyish hue. Baba’s idol is surrounded by 12 holy Baneshwar Lingas which were brought from Narmada, Bhedaghat, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Every year Shivaratri is celebrated with Yagna,Sringar and a Special puja.

Baba’s daily aarti is held every day at 6.30PM.
